Sixties Girl

Why, oh why, was I born so late?
Ya know I should been here for ’68.
I wasn’t even here for the summer of love;
I was just a little twinklin’ star up above.
I missed out on Janis, Jimi and John;
I was just a kid when they shot him down.
But I can still imagine how things might be
if we lived his vision of peace.

I’m just a sixties girl,
Caught in this crazy world.
I’m just a sixties girl,
Caught in this crazy world.

Well I guess back then things weren’t all so great,
they had Richard Nixon and Watergate.
They had air pollution and poisoned food,
the water was foul and the politics too.
They had segregation, no women’s rights,
when you turned 18 you were sent off to fight.

I’m just a sixties girl,
In this material world.
I’m just a sixties girl,
In this material world.

So what’s a sixties girl to do,
well I wrote this song and now I’m singing it to you,
but I’ll need your help to set things straight,
we’ll use the sixties spirit to guide the way.

We’ve got a hole in the ozone
the size of the moon
and global warming, oh we’ve gotta act soon,
our democracy, it’s crumblin’ down,
we gotta STOP the hate and spread more love around.

I’m just a sixties girl,
Out to change the world.
I’m just a sixties girl,
Out to change the world.
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one,
I hope some day you’ll come and join us
and the world will live as one.
